9 June 09- Londoners urged to give walking a go during the tube strike

From 18:59 tonight (Tuesday 9th June) until 18:58 on Thursday 11th June, the entire London tube network will be closed down as a result of industrial action. National charity Living Streets is urging all Londoners to give walking a go during the strike to find just how quick and easy it can be.

9 May 09- Record numbers step out for Walk to Work Week

A total of 40,888 miles, the equivalent of walking 1.6 times around the world, was walked nationally as part of Walk to Work Week last week. Commuters across the country managed to burn off the equivalent of 20,444 cupcakes and save 13,575kg of carbon.

11 Mar 09- Businesses and local councils urged to put both feet forward for National Walk to Work Week

With an estimated 70% of adults not doing enough exercise to benefit their health and statistics showing that we jump in the car for over a fifth of journeys shorter than one mile, businesses and local councils are being urged to encourage their staff and businesses in their area to change their journey to work during National Walk to Work Week (27th April - 1st May.)

17 Nov 08 - “No, walk this way!” Music celebs launch competition for first ever walking compilation

A host of top musicians have helped launch a competition to find the perfect music compilation for walking to work. As part of the Walking Works campaign, national charity Living Streets are compiling the album as a response to the hundreds of driving compliaitons released each year. Among the stars who have offered their suggestions for the perfect walk to work song are Jack Johnson and Idlewild's Roddy Woomble.
